Profits are flowing back into newspapers around the world as the ebb-tide of the recession – not technology – returns advertising to their home in print.
Reports of newspapers’ death were, as Mark Twain famously joked, exaggerated.
According to the Economist, even American newspapers – which were hardest hit by the recession – have returned to profit as cost-cutting has shed layers of cost left over from the boom times.
